MLI’s Multicultural Series for Behavioral Health Prevention Professionals:  African-American Cultures

 

This workshop provides 6 hours of training for those working in a prevention setting in behavioral/mental health. Those involved in prevention program planning, implementation, and evaluation who are seeking more information about working with African American/African-Origin  individuals,families and community members are encouraged to attend. This training will deliver information and interactive activities.

         The diversity of African-American/African-Origin Cultures.

 

          Risk and protective factors, health disparities, and the impacts upon the behavioral health of communities will be explored.

 

          The roles of historical events, institutional and individual discrimination and prejudice and the impacts upon wellness and illness in prevention, treatment and recovery.

 

         Working with individuals, families and communities: how to communicate and to engage  communities effectively to provide culturally appropriate services and resources.

 

Methods: Presentation & Dialogue, Audio visuals, Interactive activities & Hands-on exercises.


Class size: This interactive training is limited to 30 participants. Registration open until filled or 1 week prior to event, whichever comes first.

  • Lunch is available for $7.00 through this site, or you may bring your own lunch.*  Lunch is to be held from 12pm-1pm.

*Refunds for the luncheon will not be made past 02/20/10. Refunds prior to this date will be subject to a $1.00 fee.
